The Saskatchewan Transportation Corporation (STC) unveiled today the design of its new passenger and freight terminal and head office in downtown Regina.

“I am pleased to see that this design puts a high priority in providing bus passengers with a very pleasant and functional lobby area,” Mark Wartman, Minister of Agriculture and Food and MLA for Regina Qu’Appelle Valley, said.  “As well, the new facility will be 100 per cent accessible to persons with disabilities in the public, office, and bus lane areas.”

“And I am especially pleased that the new facility is going to exceed national standards on energy efficiency.  In these days of high energy costs and concerns about greenhouse gases, it is important that government facilities set the example in this regard.”

Wartman said the new facility will allow the company to improve on the high quality service it offers Saskatchewan people.

“As well as being a very good looking facility, it will be much more practical than the current Regina terminal and offices,” he said.  “It will allow for greater efficiency in both passenger and freight operations, will improve interline services with other private carriers, and will provide a safe work environment for both customers and staff.

“The new STC facility reflects City Council's long range vision of a city that is attractive, generous, affordable, accessible, compact and competitive,” said Mayor Pat Fiacco. “Creating a more competitive environment in Downtown Regina helps to attract new residents and businesses, which in turn, benefits the entire community.”

The entire project, including land assembly and preparation, building, parking and fixtures and furnishings, is budgeted to cost $19 million.  Saunders Evans Architects of Regina designed the facility.  Plans call for tenders to be let in late winter/early spring, with a construction period of approximately 14 months after the award of a contract.
